Home / Teeth Whitening
The best way to keep your teeth dazzling white and in good condition is to practice good oral hygiene, but even with the best of intentions most of us end up with dull or discoloured teeth.
This is due to natural aging; wear and tear on the enamel which thins to reveal the underlying dentin layer; the effects of some medications, diseases or medical conditions; or becoming stained by smoking or drinking beverages like tea, coffee or red wine.
If you feel your teeth are lacklustre and off-colour, help is available here at Queen Square Dental Practice in the heart of Bath. We can offer you a professional consultation to determine the most suitable whitening treatment for your teeth. That could be a strong, highly effective in-practice whitening treatment speeded up by using UV light, or you could get equally brilliant results with a take-home teeth whitening kit.
Whichever option you choose you can rest assured that our professional teeth whitening treatments are much safer, longer lasting and more effective than over-the-counter teeth whitening systems. Regulations here in the UK demand that shop-bought whitening kits can contain no more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide (bleaching agent), compared to dentist prescribed treatments which can contain many hundreds of times more than this.
If you just don’t have time in your busy day to devote to sitting around in a dentist chair indulging in effective teeth whitening treatment, we can help you achieve amazing results with our professional at-home teeth whitening kits.
You need to arrange an appointment with your dentist to set up your DIY teeth whitening course of treatment, check all is well with your mouth and teeth, then you can carry out the whitening treatment at home. We’ll measure you up for a customised tooth tray to fit over your teeth and gums. Once this has been made you can collect it along with tubes of specially formulated whitening gel.
Depending on the type of treatment and level of whitening required, your dentist will guide you on how and when to use your kit. This will involve adding the prescription whitening gel to the tray then fitting it in your mouth and leaving it to work for the time suggested by your dentist. This could be an hour or two during the day, or up to eight hours overnight.
You should start to see results within days, but most treatment courses will get the job done in a few weeks.
The results should have your teeth gleaming whitely for months to come, but hold on to your custom tray and if the time comes when you want a re-fresh, we can top up your gel formula.
Teeth whitening is largely a cosmetic dental procedure, and while most people can benefit enormously from having a brighter, whiter smile achieved in this way, there are some issues that may mean you are not a suitable candidate.
If you have realistic expectations of the results to be gained from professional teeth whitening in Bath, you’ll not be disappointed – in fact we hope you’ll be extremely satisfied with your new bright smile.
